Best Chord Changes for the Most Requested Standards: 100 Of the Most Requested Standard Songs With Professionally Altered Chords
Published in Spiral-bound by Hal Leonard (September, 1990)
Authors: Frank Mantooth and David Baker
Average review score:

Great for learning jazz
This is the best book for someone who wants to move up into the jazz arena. I was a musician for twenty years before I was brave enough to play solo jazz piano and this is one of the books that allowed me to get much better. I had bought every other jazz piano book and I did not get anything out of them. Only this and one other Mantooth book did it, with a little help from one other book. Buy it, you'll never regret it.

Beyond the Intellect

Big Trucks (Ladybird First Explorers Series)
Published in Hardcover by Ladybird Books (September, 1996)
Authors: Mary Gribbin, Julian Baker, Mary Gribben, and Ladybird Press
Average review score:

My son loves Big Trucks
my son and I usually walk down to the town library once a week or so. We borrowed Big Trucks about a month ago and the first time we returned it I thought he was going to need therapy. He had big time separation anxiety, he just couldn't let the book go. We borrowed it again a few days later and the two are inseparable. I finally gave in, realizing I would have to buy this book. I don't usually review children's books, and this is probably more a story than a review, but it comes highly recommended (just ask Griffin, my son- age 2)

The Bizarre Hockey Tournament (Dallas O'Neil & the Baker Street Sports Club, No. 6)

Author: Jerry B. Jenkins
Average review score:

Why I liked this book
I really like hockey, and it gave me a feeling for every goal made against them and by them; like you were actually on the ice. I had a lot of fun reading this book. The characters seemed real. Tristan, age 12.

Note from his dad: I did not read the book, but it sure held my son's attention, and this is a young person who really likes sports and DOES not like to read.

Black and White Rabbit's ABC
Published in Paperback by Larousse Kingfisher Chambers (September, 1999)
Author: Alan Baker
Average review score:

Another wonderful Little Rabbit Book
Once again Alan Baker has written a book with beautiful pictures that fit in with the text. The text is simple enough for young readers, yet still informative enough to be educational at the same time. All together this makes for a book which can be enjoyed by children, while teaching them in an unconfusing manner.

Blood Brothers
Published in Paperback by Chosen Books Pub Co (February, 2003)
Authors: Elias Chacour, David Hazard, and James A. Baker III
Average review score:

darling
This is a must-read for anyone who is looking for a human perspective on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Chacour brings the story of personal pain, struggle and hope to the pages of his book. This book removes the story from the realm of politicians and mass movements and refocusses the story where it should be, on the individuals hurt by and caught in the chaos, tragedy and beauty that make up the story of the Holy Land. It is beautifully and captivatingly written, capturing the spirit of the land and people. It doesn't gloss over the violence, hardship or injustice. Nor does it leave the reader feeling jaded, hopeless, or helpless. I finished with a desire to read more, learn more about both sides of the conflict and its history. Having travelled in that area of the world before the outbreak of the current conflict, I can say that it does a great job of accurately portraying the place, the people, and the spirit that pervades both. Truly an inspiring work!

Both Sides Now
Published in School & Library Binding by Scholastic (October, 1992)
Authors: Joni Mitchell, Alan Baker, and Joni Michell
Average review score:

Possibly The most Beautiful Lyrics Ever Written
Joni Mitchell, feminine/insightful social voice and poet extrodinaire.

This book is yet another example of her gift for words, through simple yet deeply profound lyric she says more, expresses more, shows more than others who toil for months even years to write a Children's book and still don't measure up to her talent. (When you got it you got it)

The illustrations depicting a caterpillar's metamorphosis is appropriate with it's metaphysical imagery. Illustrator Allan Baker captures the magic of these classic lyrics beautifully.

Why not for children? Life & Love & all of the above, as a critic I argue that children are multi-dimentional and capable of appreciating the spontaneity & playful rhymes that make this book a welcome addition to any child's (or adult for that matter) home library.

"Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air and feathered canyons everywhere, I've looked at clouds that way."

This book is a visual treat and a treasure for any fan of Ms. Mitchell. If you haven't come to appreciate her songs/writing, get this book and see why her style has been refered to as "A Lyrical Miracle!" Finally a kid's title with substance.
